AMMAN, March 25 (KUNA) -- Zain Telecom Jordan and Mada Telecom Group of Kuwait announced here Wednesday the launch of the fourth generation of wireless internet service (WIMAX).
The project would be later launched on a regional scale in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon through the optic-fiber technology.
Jordanian Minister of Communication and Information Technology Bassem Al-Rousan affirmed during the launching ceremony that the service would create competition in the communication sector and would also help decrease the digital gap in the region.
Managing Director of Mada Group in Jordan, Charles Al-Hajj told KUNA that Jordan would be the regional base for this new service which would expand in the future to other states in the region, revealing that the first phase of the project had cost USD 20 million.
The regional network would cost hundreds of millions, said Al-Hajj.
Director of Mada Group in Kuwait Ahmad Ibrahim told KUNA that the project would offer high quality internet services to the Mideast region with reasonable prices.
Head of Zain Jordan, Abdullah Fazah said that the service would provide the speed of five Megabits for subscribers through a small mobile USB device.
